Best for first-time visitors, restaurants and evening walks — everything on foot in the UNESCO lanes. The trade-off: no beach on the doorstep, parking is harder, and the main streets get busy by midday.
Best for beaches and views over the water, just across the bridge — more places with pools, often a private beach. The trade-off: the single bridge and coast road can clog in high-season traffic.
Best for a quieter stay, beach walks and families — an easy, better-value base just west of the old town. The trade-off: you're not inside the old town, so it's a 10–20 min seafront walk or a short drive in.

A 15th-century townhouse a few steps from the cathedral, with a breakfast terrace by the water. Best for: being in the heart of it all. Good to know: it's a small, older building, so rooms vary — the location is the draw. My take: the pick if you want to step straight out into the old town; skip it if you need a pool or parking at the door.

A large resort with a half-board option, kids' club and several pools, right on its own pebble beach, with a shuttle into the old town. Best for: a low-stress family beach holiday. Good to know: it's a big, older resort — you're booking the location and the beach, not designer rooms. My take: great if the beach-and-kids setup matters most; if you want charm, stay in the old town.

Family-run, sea-view apartments in Seget Donji with a kitchen and room to spread out — a 15-minute walk west of the old town, 5 minutes to the beach. Best for: families and couples who'd take space and self-catering over a central location. Good to know: these are self-catering apartments, not a hotel with a reception. Modern self-catering apartments with a kitchen and a view across the water to the old town. Best for: couples and families watching the budget. Good to know: Vranjica is a quiet mainland spot, so a car makes life much easier. My take: the best value on this list if you don't mind driving in and out.
