Active Day Trips near Trogir

A few personal outdoor escapes around Trogir — from quiet Čiovo trails to a rewarding hike above Seget Donji.

Written by Ante Milic · Last updated July 2026

These are for visitors who want to experience Trogir beyond the old town and the beach. Two outings we've actually done — one on two wheels around Čiovo, one on foot up to a quiet hilltop church — both a short hop from the centre.

Mountain Biking on Čiovo: Quiet Roads, Coastal Trails and Sea Views

I've ridden this loop several times, and it's my go-to when I want an active half-day — or a full day if you take it slowly and stop to swim. Čiovo is right across the bridge from the old town, yet once you're out of the built-up strip it turns quiet quickly.

The route mixes quiet back roads, gravel tracks and rougher, unsurfaced sections along the coast. In return you get open views of the sea, back across to Trogir, and out to the surrounding islands. For anyone reasonably sporty, a mountain bike makes far more sense here than a normal city bike — the surface isn't smooth or comfortable the whole way, and in places it's genuinely stony and uneven.

Nothing technical is required, but good shoes, plenty of water, sun protection and a small repair kit are all worth having along.

Where I rent the bike

"I have rented a mountain bike from Jokes several times and can genuinely recommend them."

Guests often ask us where they can hire a bike around Trogir, so here's the honest answer. I don't know the people at Jokes personally — I've simply been happy every single time I've rented from them, and that's the only reason they're here.

One time on Čiovo I picked up a puncture from the very dry, sharp grass and thorns along the trail. I rode back to the shop and they swapped it for another bike straight away, no fuss — and I carried on with the ride without any further trouble. That's the main reason I keep going back.

Hike to the Church of Sv. Ilija

This is the more demanding of the two — and, for us, the more rewarding. It's a proper climb up from Seget Donji to the little hilltop Church of Sv. Ilija, and the walking is over stony, sometimes uneven ground rather than a smooth, waymarked path. It suits sure-footed, reasonably fit walkers more than a gentle stroll.

In summer, start as early as you can, take more water than you think you'll need, and wear proper hiking or sturdy trail shoes. It's not a walk to do in the strong midday heat. Put the effort in, though, and the reward is the view and the quiet, empty landscape — a completely different side of the area from the busy waterfront.
